Need the wiring information for my girlfriend's 2009 Volkswagon Jetta TDI in order to install the Prostart car starter / alarm system I got her for christmas. Thank you! ------------- Luc

If this is a Mark V, all from 06 will be the same, so look at the vehicle wiring or search for posts on this topic there have been quite a few over the last 2 years.

I don't think this is a Mark V, it's the diesel jetta. I don't see any info on the Jetta TDI's on this site...

There's really no difference between the gas and the diesel versions for wiring. The only thing different is the glow plug delay between the two, otherwise I highly recommend a CANSL2 or the ADS-AL-CA for this vehicle. It will cut your installation time by 60 % if not more.

Jeff do these units read tach? If not DEI make an inductive tach pick-up for diesels I think 454T, very safe.

Howie, yes both of those modules read tach as well as outputs other convenience features. Makes the new VW and Audi's a walk in the park.

Thanks Jeff, trouble is most of these by-passes are unavailable in the UK, + compatability problems, now I'm going to do my bad cop on (asw Chris Wallace calls it) on Mr. Wilson's post on this page.

Howie, have you tried using some of these modules on Euro spec'd VW's and Audi's ?

No for the following reasons. The only one I use regularly is the good old 556U; works a treat on up E46 BMW and Golf/Jetta to Mk IV. I've tried an older DEI product that was supposedly for Lexus and Ford on both makes and ended up binning it and pulling the RFI chip. Much of the new product available in the US simply doesn't work over here different CAN protocols etc. Talking of which, VAG change their systems every time they bring out a new model. The market is also very different here, R/S is almost unknown, just about everything has a factory alarm, you wouldn't believe the trim levels on a Ford Fiesta baby car, climate air, sat nav synch etc. Frankly I try and steer clear of any German sourced car post 2004. The big market are the kids, today I did a VW Polo (think smaller Golf) a 97, tatty worth $300, Hornet + R/S, power locks and windows, and when I left the lads were changing the head unit and speakers. The locks and windows alone were worth more than the car. Friday I've got a Peugeot 206 (lovely; retest every time you do one, they change the wiring colours every 2 months) and Monday I've got a Nissan Skyline which will probably be tatty. N.B. Apropos of what I was saying before, Lexus RX model I picked up the locks in the driver's door without the need for the bits specified in Tech Tip 1070, in fact extending the lock pulse also gave me roof and window close. I don't know who's done one your side of the pond but does it really need those bits?
