I am looking for the VSS wire on a 1997 Ford Econoline E-250. So far information from this forum seem to indicate that it is at the PCM at driver side firewall and it is gray/black in color.

I think I've found it but just want to make sure if I am looking at the right place. I have two pictures and in both it is difficult to see clearly but in person the wire pointed to is colored gray/black. They are the same wire with pictures taken at different angles. Can anybody confirm for me if I have found the right wire?
Thanks.

Thanks. I looked behind the instrument cluster and did find a
gray/black wire there also. This makes it even easier since I won't need to fish a wire from under the hood.
Just a rookie question: On any car, for example in my case a gray/black wire, is it safe to assume the wire/wires with a certain color is for sure assigned to that purpose? (In this case gray/black is the VSS wire as per the given data.) So another words if I find a gray/black wire anywhere in the car, it must be the VSS wire, right?

not any car, no.  but ford has used that color for years.  changed when they used data bus for information transfer.  simplifies wiring at the cluster etc.
