pro installer could not put alarm in?

First off I am a first time poster. My name is Travis, I live in Arkansas USA and was born and raised in California. I am 30 years old. I have basic skills with auto alarms with only 2 installs under my belt. One being a 2 wire and the other was about 10. I skipped the auto locks on that one though and the parking lights where wired wrong since only one light flashed.

So heres what I am working on now, and hope to get it all right this time on my wifes car (1989 Buick Park Ave Electra). I have a Performance Teknique ICBM-7071 alarm. I tried to hook it up and on the auto start I ran into a snag. I got that figured out and decided to take it to a local shop anyway so I could make sure it gets done since my wife has been driving the car for months with stripped interior.

The shop said they could not do the install cause they need a generic DLS module. I tried calling the manufacture but they dont pick up. I dont even know what a DLS is so all I can fugure is that it has something to do with the auto head lights. I dont have to have the alarm flashing the parking lights really. Can I just skip that part? If thats even what the DLS is for?

it sounds more like he is trying avoid doing the work because it would be more trouble than it is worth for him.
the only dls i can think of is for the doorlocks.
what still remains to be complete on the install?

I started on the auto start and hooked up three wires on it. That is all I did besides take the interior out.

So since the DLS may work the doors; would that be for controlling what door would be unlocked. U know like just drivers door, or all doors?

The wiring info you need is here in the vehicle wiring section. Use that to do your installation. It's pretty straightforward.

I could not find a complete manual for this system but from what I did find, this system have onboard relays for the doorlocks. You would not need anything additional to operate the doorlocks.
So I'm not sure what DLS module he is referring to.

Modules on an 89 car?
Gearbox and engine but they aren't relevant to this.
Could it have been old fashioned BS?

actually the wire color key for my car listed on this site is wrong. I got the info your referring to from another website.

This is why I was saying how little experience that I have with alarms, and that I needed help since a professional shop was telling me something that seemed far fetched. But how could I know that for sure but to ask.

Well I guess I have nothing more to do but get off my tail and hook it up then. Everyone thanks for the help, and I will update on my finished project as soon as I can get to it.   

It doesn't matter, a vehicle of that age should be comparatively easy to do without a crib sheet, probably still has a single coil for tach.

Howie, this car actually has the triple coils that sit atop the ignition module but the tach can be tapped at the module.

Ya its a older car but they put a lot of electronics in it. Air ride in the rear with a compressor under the hood, digital climate control, 10 way power seats, auto lights. IMO they made cars better in the old days. Whats better is your paid off on the first payment lol. Anyways the car has the 3.8 and only 70k miles on it and it was owned by an old lady. As you might think its in great condition and that's why I am putting myself threw this mess.

None of which are relevant to the remote start in the way of problems, I meant no DATA conversion, no transponder to worry about, no sleep circuits etc.

K thats what I was looking to find out. Two things. I get the satisfaction of installing it on my own, and at no cost. I wont ever go back to that shop again. Thanks again.
