chances are it will be in the harness that comes from the rear of the vehicle.  Look for the bundle of wires under the door sill.

It is in the front.  You should be able to find that bundle of wires under the drivers door sill.  Once you find it in that harness, you should be able to find it further up the wall.

Since you've found two, one of which might be the one why not TEST.

-------------
Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.
Read the installation manual, do a search here or online for your vehicle wiring before posting.

I did test them but neither one worked

How are you testing the brown wire (-). you are supposed to be testing it by pressing the button on the rear hatch not the factory remote. every time you hit the button on the hatch you will see a negative signal on one of those brown wires.
If your explorer is anything like my 2002, if the doors are locked or I believe if the car is running that button on the hatch won't open the hatch. So, Instead I used the positive hatch release wire. I used a relay to change the negative output to a positive, this way my hatch will pop open when I want it to. The Positive hatch release wire is BROWN / Blue in your truck and you can test this wire using the factory remote key fob or the button on the hatch. Its located in the same area you are looking now.
