I am installing seat heaters in a 2011 Mercedes Benz GLK 350 for the local dealership. As some of you may already know, Mercedes does not encourage the installation of aftermarket equipment, and has a tendancy of voiding vehicle warranties to discourage aftermarket installation.

I have two options for the installation. I can either run the power off of the batter to a relay and then wire in the seat heaters; or I can put an add-a-fuse on a fuse that is only hot with the key.

If I am going to do the add-a-fuse, I found a 5 amp fuse in the bottom right corner of the cargo area fuse block that is only hot with the key. However, I cannot find the specifications of that fuse or the block. I do not know what the function of any of the fuses are, and this information is not in the owner's manual or on the door of the block. I would have to know the function of the 5 amp fuse in before continuing with this route.

If I am going to go off of the battery, into a relay, I have to locate the ignition wire, splice into it, and use it as a switch wire for the relay. I cannot find any information specifying the location and color of this wire either.

If anyone has any information that could help, it would be appreciated. Thank you.

My own thought would be to run from the battery, fuse it then to a relay and trigger the relay from that fuse.
Do they still have a bolted power constant 12V+ feed to the front under dash fuse boxes? Save you going into the engine bay.

Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.
Read the installation manual, do a search here or online for your vehicle wiring before posting.

The accessory plug in the rear of the console is ignition power and rated at 15 amps. I've done 2 seats on this no problem. If your not comfortable with that use it for the relay trigger. The AC vents pop upwards and out, then the rear ashtray will pop out towards the rear, no screws in either. Remove the 2 10mm nuts under the ashtray and the console will lift up half a foot...
