I have exhausted all of my wiring sources, and none of them seem to have definitive information on where to locate a VSS wire and what color it might be.  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Here is info for a 2010 Yaris :
Vehicle Speed Sense     VIOLET (AC)     DASH FUSE BOX WHITE 36 PIN CONN, PIN 26
Some of the other wires for a R/S look the same so hopefully this one hasn't changed.

Shouldn't that also be on the radio loom, prepared for when there's a factory Sat Nav?

I would normally assume the same, except I now also have a 2011 Yaris here, and the junction block under the dash is completely different.  Then I had a brainfart. The radio has auto level control, so the wire is probably at the back of the radio too.  Will need to test....

Sorry Howie, I didnt read you post before my reply.  By same color, you mean Violet, like in the 2010?  What do you mean by "stop press"?  There is a violet at the back of the radio too. Thanks for the info and your signature is dead on.

The stop press was because I had the brain fart immediately after the first post!
I was alarming one, had the centre section out around the radio and saw it up to the left but be careful, I'm talking about local (UK) build right hand drive, but radios are always set up the same physically so it should be there.
Same colour, alternate was violet/white.

When in doubt, go to the reference manuals, and then test...  posted_image

Ok, here it is:  The VSS wire is Violet, pin number 17 on the 28 pin connector at the back of the radio.  Tested and confirmed.  Thanks to all.
