2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. I need to disable the starter. The wiring appears simple and the same as a gas version. Will cutting the starter wire stop the gas and electric motor function?

Funnily enough I'm pursuing the same problem with the Prius.
It's simpler to chase the wire from the brake switch, either input or output, not blue that only feeds the brake lights.
Trouble is the damn thing is inaccessible on right hand drive versions and I'm awaiting dealership help to trace back one of the others to a more convenient point.

Amateurs assume, don't test and have problems; pros test first. I am not a free install service.
Read the installation manual, do a search here or online for your vehicle wiring before posting.

Correct.  Black wire was cut and the vehicle will not start.  If you crank the vehicle and then cut the start wire the hybrid function of the vehicle worked fine with the engine shutting down at stoplights and restarting when you apply the gas. For what I was doing this wasn't different than a gas version.
