Hi,

I purchased a Crimestopper RS3-G3 remote starter for my daughter's 2002 Toyota Camry as a Christmas gift. I didn't realize that it was so complicated before I asked a handy friend to install it for me. I feel terrible to take up too much of his time, so I'm trying to find out any information that would make the installation as smooth as possible, ie. are there more parts that I need, it seems like I keep reading about a bypass.   Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

You will definitely need a bypass module since that key has a chip in it. The remote starter won't be able to start the vehicle without it.

I prefer iDatalink and Fortin modules. The iDatalinks require a dealer account to put the correct firmware for your vehicle on it. If you can find someone to flash the correct firmware, you can buy an ADS-TB or ADS-TBSL-KO.

You can also get one that is self learning with the firmware already built-in like the Fortin Key-Override-All.

Here is the link to the install guide for that module -

Either manufacturer makes rock solid modules that work great the first time, every time.

The camry is a fairly simple install if you have basic mobile electric/elecronics knowledge. All the wiring is easily found under the dash.

I love the Crimestopper units too. I install a lot of the RS4-G3 models.

Actually not all Camry's of that year had Transponder keys, so you might not need a bypass. Only if it has a "security" light under the radio to the right does it have a transponder. See picture below, I put a yellow box around where the "security" light would be.
