I want to make my wife's 2010 Honda Civic a little more idiot proof, so the headlight will not stay on when engine not running

My plan is to find a HEADLIGHT RELAY, and disconnec one side of its coil from the constant 12 v and connect it to the ignition 12 v.

I believe the another side of the relays coil is connects to ground when lightswitch  turned on.

Found 11 relays in the engine's comparment fuse box, and they are very poorly identified on the box cover.

Some looks like a fan blade, others like a snowflake, a 6 of them looks like open book pages.

Can somebody tell me, which one is the headlight relay ?

Is there any way to get under the relay socket to the bottom of the box?

Where can I find the nearest ignition 12 v wire?

Thanks!

Why dont you run a relay at the headlights switch instead ? Break the connection of the relay when ignition is OFF. You will need to do this for the park lights as well since it doesn't help if the park lights stay on but the headlights go off.

thank for the info

it seems like there is no headlight relay in the engine fusebox :-(

headlight turn on/off  now is part of the multiplex unit (MICU) behind the underdash fuse panel....I will not touch it !

as you suggested , probaly the best to do is to interrupt a signal coming fromt the steering wheel's combination light switch and route it thru an additional relay which is controlled by the ignition ON voltage.....

yes, the parking light is also an issue, so instead of interrupting 2 outgoing lines with 2 relays, (or  with 1 relay with dual contacts),

I might just interrupt the incoming ground line......because light switch sends out GND to activate any lights (Park/Low/High)

I would like to have a wiring diagram for the switch (wire colors), it would make my project much easier.

Anybody has 2010 Honda Civic wiring diagram ?

Thanks!

Those same wires for the light control are found at the headlight switch.
