I have installed the python 580 remote starter in my 06 camry, which is an LE 4 cylinder. The r/s cranks the engine forever or until i activate the brake pedal but the engine will not start unless i insert the key and turn it to the on position. The key I am using is just a standard metal key (no resistor or chip).

What happens if you put the key in the ignition switch, don't turn it, then try remote starting. Does it start?

You didn't mention a bypass. Is one installed? If so, what model?

Nope it won't start by just putting the key in the ignition. I have to turn it to the on position, then it will start with the r/s signal. I don't have a bypass installed, i didn't think that i needed one because the key that i am using is just a standard metal key, it doesn't have a resistor or chip.

This is how I have the wiring connected:
Main Harness (H1)
H1/2 Red connected to constant + 12 volt
H1/5 Black connected to chassis ground

H2 Harness
H2/15 Grey, connected to hood pin
H2/17 Brown, connected to + brake shutdown in vehicle
H2/18 BLACK/ White, connected to ground

H3 Harness
H3/1 Pink, connected to ignition 1 in vehicle harness
H3/2 RED / White, connected to + 12 volt constant in vehicle harness
H3/4 Violet, to both starter and starter 2 wire in the vehicle harness
H3/5 Red, connected to + 12 volt constant in vehicle harness
H3/6 Pink/White, connected to ignition 2 in vehicle harness
H3/8 RED / Black, connected to + 12 volt constant in vehicle harness

Does this all sound correct.

Thanks for all of your help.

H3/1 PINK (+) IGNITION 1 INPUT/OUTPUT   BLACK/ RED (+)  @ IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
H3/2 RED / WHITE +12V FUSED (30A) FLEX RELAY INPUT            WHITE/ RED (+)  @ IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
H3/3 ORANGE (+) ACCESSORY OUTPUT BLUE/RED (+)  @ IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
H3/4 VIOLET (+) STARTER OUTPUT          BLACK/ WHITE (+)  @ IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
H3/5 RED +12V FUSED (30A) IGNITION 1 INPUT   WHITE/ RED (+)  @ IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
H3/6 PINK/WHITE IGNITION 2/FLEX RELAY OUTPUT        BLACK / YELLOW (+)  IGN2 @ IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
H3/7 PINK/BLACK FLEX RELAY Input         not used
H3/8 RED / BLACK +12V FUSED (30A) ACC/STARTER INPUT        WHITE/ RED (+)  @ IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS

The are two BLACK / YELLOW wires in the ignition harness.  You must use a DMM to determine which is which.  It is not a
good idea to connect both Starter wires to the same R/S output wire.  You will need an extra relay to power the Starter2
circuit.  Wiring shown below :
Relay Pin 85 to 580 PURPLE (-) 200mA STARTER OUTPUT
Relay Pin 86 and 87 to +12V constant thru +20 Amp fuse
Relay Pin 30 to Camry BLACK / YELLOW (+)  Starter2 @ IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS
Relay Pin 87a not used

Soldering is fun!

I would think something is not wired correctly. When you turn the key to the ON position the wires are energized correctly and the remote starter is merely cranking the starter.
Follows Kreg357's directions for using a DMM to identify the correct wires.
Two Starters, Two Ignitions, and One Accessory.
I see a lot of this was covered in your posts in 2011.
