So I've ordered a remote start for my girlfriends 2008 ford edge. Its manufactured by stellar ( model rs 1050) and it included a bypass ( same manuf.) and I was having some questions as their service desk is only weekdays and I can only work on this the weekend.

so some questions I have are the following,
I need a wiring diagram for the PATS for the bypass module.
so far I'm considering one hooks to the PATS TX(YELLOW/ORANGE) side to BYPASS YELLOW and PATS GROUND(BLACK) to BYPASS(BLACK). Im mainly trying to confirm the wire colors.

the other question would be is there a wire to use as an hood pin input. I found somewhere that someone said BLUE/ORANGE located Smart Junction Box conn F pin 10 or pin switch. Im also just verifying what that wire is for.

Let me know if anyone can find anything that helps,
Thanks, Jonathan

Here is the info on the PATS wires.  They are in a Black 4 Pin plug at the ignition switch.
Edge 07-10     TX Pin 3 Violet/Gray       RX Pin 4 Yellow/Orange

Here is the factory hood pin info.  Verify that the Edge does have the factory hood pin.  Also take note that this is the Ford N.C. type
set-up.  The Blue/Orange wire will show (-) when the hood is closed and go to an open state when the hood is raised.  This is not
what most after-market remote start / security systems are looking for as an input.  Some newer systems can be programmed to
accept this type is signal.  Not familiar with the RS 1050 to know if it can handle this.
Hood Pin    Blue/Orange (- N.C.)      @ hood pin switch or SJB, 26 pin plug (F), pin 10

Ok I've got the PATS info down pat now. Just hoping what wire I connect to them is correct.

How do you verify if the ford edge is equipped with a hood pin? Are they know to come with them?

What bypass module are you getting?  Can you upload the RS-1050 Install Guide into the Downloads section?  And the bypass install guide?

Does the Edge have a factory alarm?  If yes, sit in the Edge, make sure all doors, etc are closed, set the factory alarm, wait 2 minutes and then pop the hood release.  If the horn starts beeping, you have a factory hood pin.

You could also locate the Blue/Orange wire at the SJB and test it with a Digital Multi Meter.  DMM set to 20V DC, Red test lead to +12V constant, Black test lead to Blue/Orange wire.  Should read +12V with hood closed and the 0V with hood open.

Kreg,

Couldn't believe it, but I had that RS1050 on file. It has been uploaded.

Smokeman1,

Where can you access the upload you uploaded. I wanted to see if they are the same as the instructions they sent me

Kreg,

Thanks, Rich.  Very brief install guide with typo's...

Hate to say it, but this RS-1050 violates Howie II's basic rule.  It does not have a Tach wire input.  It appears to use only Voltage Sense or a fixed crank time.  Plus it's an "Add-On" system, using vehicle supplied (-) input ( one or three pulses ) to initiate the remote start.

For around $63, you could get an Avital 4103 remote start system with a Directed 1100F bypass module.  That would give you two 4 button remotes with Lock, Unlock, Trunk release and R/S button, 1000 feet of range and no key hidden under the dash.   Plus much better install guides, Tach controlled cranking, variable run times, over-rev protection and horn confirmation.

Sorry, don't mean to bash the RS-1050 system.  It is an off-brand and somewhat pricey.  Not sure about it's performance and reliability.

Kreg,

Ive added the manuals. search RS 1050 for the remote start and look for the one I posted. Its quite different than the one posted by smokeman1 and ive also posted the bypass instructions. search bypass capatable with stellar RS 1050 and that should show it. Let me know what you can find out about it. I paid $71 for the whole kit but just getting the right wires has been an issue. This kit also uses the same existing Key fob which is desired

If I'm reading that bypass module install guide correctly, it is for use only on older GM vehicles that have the resistance based VATS, Paslock1 or Passlock2 engine immobilizer systems. It will not work with your Ford transponder chip based PATS3 system. Might want to contact the seller or Stellar directly to confirm this and find out what they recommend for your Edge. Unless you have a spare ignition key you don't want, stay away from the "universal" type bypass modules that require a key to be placed inside the bypass module and hidden under the dash.

Being as this RS 1050 system uses the Factory remotes Lock command ( 3 times in a row within a few seconds ) to initiate a remote start, is the working range of this FOB acceptable? That is the usual complaint with this "add-on" style of remote start system.

Avital makes the 4113 system with very small one button remotes that have 1000 feet of range.
