Has anyone had experience with 99 jeep wrangler?I have completed my underhood conduit run and really do not want to try to find a tach wire out in the engine compartment.
I have the dash cluster out and have access to the wires behind the factory tach. The wire chart from this site says the tach input is gray with white trace (does not say where to find it) and I have found such a wire coming off the harness immediately behind the tach location. But have not found anyway to confirm the function of this wire. I have tried a DMM with the ground probe to chassis and the positive probe to the gray wire, but show no voltage in either AC or DC in any range. Or perhaps someone out there knows for a fact that this gray/white off the tach IS the right wire and just use it. I am down to the very last part of the install before final hookup and I am stuck on the tach input. If anyone can help out here, it would sure make my day.

If tach is not run through data then it will be in the main dash cluster plug, and be the same color. Otherwise you have to either use voltage sense or hard wire to a coil or injector.

I'm not sure what mean by voltage sense. How is this done?

It's a averaged set point of difference between the standing voltage and the running voltage with alternator charging. As most charging systems charge at around 14 volts. Battery standing voltage is usually between 12.5 and 12.7 volts. IE voltage is usually always higher when the charging system is active when engine is running.

You Must Use GREY wire On Ignition Coil Connector.

Most of your combo bypasses will do tach for you thru data.

Well I finally just bit the bullet and went to the coil. I found a clean path through the fire wall close to the wire rail running along side of the injectors and kept the interface neat and relatively invisible. The connection registers with the commane LED as described in the manual ansd the remote start works very nicely. Thanks to all who responded to my distress signal...
