I am building a T harness to wire in an amp into the factory wiring. I have a standard metra harness as well as a reverse harness so that I do not need to modify the factory wiring.

The reverse harness (into radio) has about 6 additional wires than the vehicle side harness.

I want to know what each represents on both the radio side and vehicle side so that I can add new pins to the standard harness.

Do not worry about the 6 extra wires. As long as all the wires of the OEM harness get connected back to the radio all will be fine.

Do I risk losing steering wheel controls or anything like that? It wouldn’t be the end of the world... but, would rather not lose them if I don’t have to.

Should I de-pin the extra wires on the radio side harness or just cap them?

If every wire of the OEM harness reaches the radio in the same position they were in initially, you should not lose anything.

Depin or insulate the ends, really makes no difference.
