I am trying to install a Sony CD/Tuner in a 2001 Mitsu Eclipse in place of the factory CD.
I am having no trouble with the basic speaker/power wiring, but there was a second connector that goes up to the dash remote display (clock, track #, etc.) and it has 4 wires (red, blk, white. brown) that now have nowhere to go!
Without this plugged in, there is no hazard flash, locks or keyless entry and possibly other problems. I don't mind losing the remote display, but not the other stuff.
What to do with these other wires?! Thanks,
Rik

Do those functions work when the original unit is unplugged from the stereo wiring but is kept plugged in to that 2nd connector? If so, then just relocate the original unit somewhere else in the vehicle. Or if it'll fit back there behind the dash then do that. And use a wiring harness (Metra 70-7001 or equivalent) to hook up to the stereo connector, or tap in to the wires directly.
If it needs to have both connectors plugged in for those functions to work, you'll have to keep it plugged in and tap in to the stereo wiring for the appropriate connections for the aftermarket head unit. The speaker wires can just be cut (rather than tapping in to them) since they will not need to go to the original unit; also I don't think the original unit would need the +12 volts switched connection. And of course just plug the antenna into the aftermarket head unit.
Those are really the only solutions I can think of.
