I'm interested in replacing the headunit in my 2003 Accord Coupe LX. I have seen several kits for aftermarket headunit installation, but I believe they're intended for the EX Accords.
If you're not familiar with the new Accord Coupes (I can't speak for the sedans as I haven't seen their stereos yet, but I assume they're similiar) the EX with navigation has everything integrated into the nav LCD, the EX without navigation has a stereo with climate controls integrated into the headunit, and the LX has a very basic headunit with no climate controls or other non-stereo functions.
This stereo is located above the large volume control knob located in the center of the dash. It appears that this headunit can be removed separately from the rest of the center dashboard.
The headunit mounting kits that I have seen retain the factory headunit (for use of climate control in the EX without navigation) and allow installation of an aftermarket headunit in the CD storage compartment.
My problem with the LX is that I have no need for the ugly factory headunit. I would like to remove this and install an aftermarket headunit in the space currently occupied by the factory headunit. The problem is that the factory headunit is triangular shaped and I would need an adapter/mounting plate to install an aftermarket headunit. I have not seen any of these for sale anywhere.
If anyone has information about replacing the headunit in the LX coupe, please let me know. Thanks.
I assume you already know about
this kit? sorry I don't remember what the LX radio looks like....but there's got a be a way to do it for sure...
