alpine alarm info

I have acquired an Alpine 8070 alarm module which was chopped from a previous install on a Ford. I have no remote with it. Other than spending a lot of time trying to piece this together, finding a remote, finding a pinoutfor the module (to go in my '95 Monte Carlo) and learning about this area ofautomotive systems, is this module worth the effort. I mean, good reputation?reliable?

If its a second hand unit and doesn't have a remote, I would honestly say not worth it.  You should upgrade to an alarm starter combo if you are deciding to drive it in the winter, worth the investment, trust me.  Several different brands out there to chose from, no specific ones, and if you have connections at audio stores you can pick up a combo from 150 to 200 dollars, not installed of course, otherwise your getting ripped off!  As for the Alpine, if you can find a dealer that installs Alpine, try it, but they might charge you 50 dollars for a remote, 100 dollars difference from a new one that has 2 features instead of one, something to think about.

Thanks for a honest informed reply. I work at a dealership which recently
changed the front end staff. They brought in a guy to install a stereo, and
who came back to do some window tints. He was asking me about
checking rpm signals, and as we talked, it became apparent that he also
installed alarms and remote starts. He gave me the same advice and it
makes sense. I do want something that works properly and I don't even know
if this thing will have any life when hooked up. I will still play with this thing
on the bench just for some learning, but new is the way to go, especially
with his offer of cutting me a good deal.
