I need the color of the wire for my ignition circuit, preferably the one coming down my steering column. I want to install a device (back-up alarm) that needs to be powered on when I start my car. It is a 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. Any alternative method of powering on this device would be appreciated.
Your going to want the WHITE/ yellow (+) wire off of the ignition switch. You also might consider using the pink/black or gray / YELLOW wires in the same harness. Only difference is these are accessory wires instead of ignition. That means they drop power during the crank cycle and regain power once the car is running. Better off connecting to one of these to free up more power for your car during crank. Drop the underdash panels and you can easily access the wire you need. Be sure to test it first and make sure you put a fuse inline. Good luck,
Mike
Thanks Mike, I'll do as you suggest. Only thing is I went to a local alarm installer and his database only went up to 2003. That year it was yellow/white. I've looked for it but can't see it (there's pink/black+others) Tomorrow I'm gonna drop the plastic housing around the steering column that's covering the harness and see if I can find exactly what's connected to my ignition switch.Good thing to mention the point about the fuse. I was going to put an inline fuse in the new circuit, very low amps as it's just a receiver/LED. When it comes I'll look at the specs. Thanks again for your help. There's nothing like posting in forums to find answers. It would take weeks of using "google" etc. to find what might not even be there.
