i need to know if the steering wheel control wires are the same for a 2001 durango and ram? does anyone know or can point me to find that info?

Yes they are. All models that have the two pin white plug on the back of the Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler head units can be controlled via the steering wheel controls of different vehicles.
