Hello everyone,

I installed a car starter over a year ago, and recently the rpm guage went haywire and jumped all over the place.

I removed the starter thinking that was the cause. Now the RPM guage only works after driving it about 7miles or it doesn't work at all... has anyone ever heard of this happening? or have any idea what I could check.

I am thinking the coil might have been shorted.

Is it a Honda? I had that happen on two different Honda Accords before but never knew what caused it.

Actually it is a 2003 Chevy Tracker,

I have heard maybe a faulty voltage regulator may cause it. But not sure.

I have experience a faulty car starter on a 86 lincoln Mark VI. It has the same problem. However, the car owner said when he took his car from the dealer it was just an alternator problem. When it was replaced everything else went smooth. That is according to the cars owner.

i would have to agree with the voltage regulator being the culprit on that one RT.

Thanks for all the replys everyone....

I tested the voltage at the battery while running and the voltage seems fine....

could it still be a voltage regulator?... I am baffled on this one.
