does any body know where if there is a program or book to buy that tells you what wire is what when somebody comes up to you and wants you to hook up a after market radio and they have already cut the plug off and threw it away

any suggestion would greatly be welcome thanks

We always write down the wire colors after a new vehicle comes in for quick reference if we ever need the color codes. This way, there's no guess work everytime that model vehicle comes in. Another thing you can do is email or call Metra or American Internartional and they can help you out with this.

You can do it usually using a combination of a multimeter and the web pretty easily. If you just have 11 wires, (or 7 in a 2 speaker setup) you're probably looking at batt + (org.) Ground (black) and ACC on (red). and then 2 or 4 +/- combos for speakers. If you have more, it's probably unique (or more uniqe) to your car. One more common wire is dimmer +, which I'm forgetting the wire code for right now cause I'm pretty fried. ;)
