I need help finding the tach wire on a 1996 volkswagin jetta diesel, any help would be great... thanks...

should be blk /purple at large harness against firewall

TD or TDi? 1996 was kind of a grey year as far as VW diesels is concerned. If it's a TD, then head to the "W" terminal on the alternator. If it's a TDi, then you can get tach off of injector #3, which should have an injection pulse sensor on it. Could also head over to TDIClub.com and ask there.
