|       TACHOMETER|      tan/white           |   |ignition coil top motor

The ignition coil is located near the center of the motor on all models.

I hooked the wire up, but it reads that the truck redlines at 2500 rpms-whats up w/that? bad connection maybe? is it only one connection that i need to tie into? i have 2 ignition coils.  Thanks

are you redlining or is the rev limiter kicking in.. the limiter will be lower than redline..

probably rev limiter-but i floored it-it never got higher than 2500-also when i rev it, it hasn't gotten higher than 2300-a friend says that it might be a bad connection, but i'm not sure-the instructions said that i need to hook it up to the powertrain module which i have no idea what it looks like or where its at.  right now its hooked up to a solid tan wire directly to one of the ignition coils.  should it be hooked up to both?  Thanks

no just one wire should be hooked up.. when you drive it will it let you go over 2300 or so RPM?  I'm not sure how the rev limiter works in a gear, but I know that in alot of cars, in drive it will shut off at around 3000 when red line will be around 4500 or 5000.. One of my installers had the same in a ranger he had.. was an older model though.. 95 or 96...

Make sure that the tach is set to 4 Cyl operation.  I have a 99 Nissan Frontier, and I had to set my tach to 4 Cyl.  There may be a switch that says 4,6,8 on the back of your tach.
