What is the VSS used for in an alarm/remote start system. I have a wire from the alarm hooked to the tach wire in the truck but the alarm has no VSS wire coming to hook to the VSS wire in the truck. Is this a neccesity of any sort?

VSS stands for Vehicle Speed Signal and is not used in an alarm/remote start installation. You will use this wire for cruise controls and vehicle navigation systems.
