I have a 2000 s-10 5 speed.  There is a little light that comes on when the cpu thinks its time to shift.  That light bugs me some times.  I have tryed takeing out the light bulb but they used a led.

if yoou have allready accessed that led and if it's not so hard to reach you may install across the two teminal of it a resistor of (1000 ohms (1k) (brown,red,black)).that resistor will force the led to not light. it will draw about 12 to 14 mA. Also, the resistor wil close the circuit and will do a load too, this is graet in the case where the computer monitor the dash indicator.Take a particular attention if you think about soldering the resistor after testing; the dash board are often build on a thin plastic sheet as pc board. Maybee that it will be better to do some mechanical connection (twist on wire).

you can cut out the led or grab a soldering gun and pull at the light the same time you press the soldering gun to the conetion of the bulb.,

A piece of black tape might help.
