Trying to hook up a modern FM/CD to replace old multistack factory premium system, but dont find speaker wires under dash. Looks like the connector goes to a seperate power amp. Can I still use this amp with the new unit ? or should I just try and find the speaker wires after the amp . Where is that amp anyway?
Thanks Guys!

The Jagman
you can intergrate the amp just fine. if you want to bypass, there is a plug to do so. the amp is in the rear passanger side panel.
Ok
First is this a JBL system? How do I know if its a JBL system. First it will say JBL right on the front of the radio. Second there will be a power antenna on the front right fender. Last when you pull the radio out there will be NO antenna plugged into it.
Yes_This system is unique and was only made in 95-97 ish. This system uses a Remote Display Radio and amplifier brain combination. First the radio is nothing more than a remote display controller and the amplifier in the right rear of the vehicle is the guts/brains/amp/tuner of the system. The Radio talks to the amplifier via a data bus. Tells the amp to raise and lower the volume, change stations, etc.. The amplifer has all the speaker wires in a black plug and also has the antenna plug (Ford style use adaptor Metra 40fd10) and also provides the switched power output to the power antenna controller which is located to the right of the amplifier. There are a couple of way to integrate with this system. First is to run new speaker wire to each door boot harness, locate the speaker wires, cut and connect the speakers to some wire and run that wire back up to the dash. You will need to run an antenna wire to the right rear panel and connect the antenna as well as run a power antenna turn on wire. Connect your antenna turn on wire to the orange with a green trace at the power antenna control box. The other option is to run all four speaker wires to the amp in the back and make all your connections back there, along with the antenna and power antenna turn on. No easy way to do this car.
NO_ if your vehicle does not have the JBL system interfacing with the factory amp is simple and only requires a wiring harness adaptor. Now there is the NON JBL NON amplified system and then there is a NON JBL amplified system...just used the appropriate harness adaptor.
Hope that helps.
