What if your car is not an Acura or Honda?

While I'm here, my car is a 1998 Hyundai Sonata and I have this problem too. (Turned car on with dash unplugged, first alarm install, Woops!)

Anyway, I know I could do it with a code reader, but I don't have easy access to someone who will do it for cheap, and I sure as hell don't want to pay the dealer to fix it. What about a local parts store, would they be able to do it for me, or can I do it myself?
