I am totally new to car ownership and even newer to fixing them. I had no car-fixing role models comming up. My question here is how difficult will it be for a novice like me to replace my sparks and wires? I have been looking around and I see this spacing or gap. what are they referring to and how is it accomplished? I have no special tools I might add! Also how long can I ride with a plug down and what are the ramifications of so doing?

My suggestion would be to go to a automotive retail store and buy pre-gapped plugs ( NGK Iridiums are my choice ) and you can remove the old plug wires pretty easy on those vehicles. Removing the spark plug you will need a deep socket or a spark plug wrench, loosen off the the spark plug and because the plug is deep in the valve cover, use the end of the spark plug that you removed to push back into the now loosened spark plug to remove the plug.

When you put the new one into the engine, push the plug back into the old spark plug wire and insert it carefully into place and slowly thread the plug into place. Once it's had about 3 turns you can remove the plug wire and tighten with your spark plug wrench ( DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN or you will strip the aluminum block ).

Ractive Triple magnetic Core 9MM spark plug wire set.Fits 95-98 Eclipse or Talon with 2.0L four cylinder engine.Fits non-turbo models only

and these

OBX Racing Iridium Spark Plugs for the Mitsubishi Eclipse 2.0L (Part #R200).

the plugs description does not say whether or not they are gapped or not.

Also I was wondering how long I can go with the one spark missing or how bad it is to drive this way?

If the spark plug is designed for a vehicle specific application, then they are pre-gapped. You can drive with a faulty plug or wire for as long as you want, bu the vehicle will perform like crap and you wil notice fuel economy go down as well.
