I'm a noob here. I searched but could not find. Where can I locate a 12V (+ve)  source that is hot only when the engine is running? This is distinct from the ignition key/accessory source.  The application is a piggyback ECU and the vehicle on this occasion is a 2001 Honda CR-V 2.0ES with the fuel injected B20 engine.

Thanks. OK, there's a few to choose from. I don't think I can use tach. But which of the others will be hot 12V +ve with the engine running and drop to 0V if/when the engine stalls? Basically this is a requirement for a 'run' only signal for safety reasons  - to shut off a gas (LPG) ECU.

the ECU should have a tach input and see that the engine has stopped and in turn shut off the pump
