On a 2002 dodge ram 1500, there's a electrical component on or by the hood latch, it has it's own bracket mount, and it just has two wires with a harness.....  It doesn't appear to have any useful purpose.  Does anyone know what this is??  Reason for asking is, I'm looking for an alternative to drilling holes for my Remote start hood pin switch......  I can seem to find a good place to put it, and thought this (gizmo that stays with the hood when it's opened) might be some type of mercury switch, that I could tap into for this purpose.......   What exact location do the installers put the hood pin switch on this model of truck???

                                                                                               thanx in advance

I use a mercury switch for all installs. I'll sell you one for $8 plus shipping.

I agree, go with the mercury switch, it will save you a headache.  Make sure it is not the ball bearing "mercury switch", they are unreliable.
