Hi everyone. We've bought a 2002 Mazda Tribute and are replacing the audio system. I've found the wiring diagram on your web site, but it doesn't mention the power aerial at all. The new stereo has a wire for the power aerial, so I want to make sure that everything is wired properly.

We've pulled the old stereo out, (managed to get our local Mazda dealer to do it for free!) and would love to have to whole thing in this weekend.

If anyone can either confirm that there is no wire in the vehicle to connect the power aerial on the stereo - or tell me the colour of the Tribute's wire.. Hope this makes sense. :)

Also, in the wiring diagram that you have here, there is mention of a "Radio Illuminate" wire. I don't have this on the new stereo. Do we just cap this one and ignore it? Could someone please tell me what the Radio Illuminate does?

PS I believe that the Ford Escape and the Mazda Tribute are the same car..

I am pretty sure that your vehicle does not have a power antenna (auto aerial) nor a factory amplifier. These would be the only reason to connect that wire to anything. So you would cap off and do not use either of the blue wires of your new radio.

The radio Illuminate wire provides power to the light bulbs in your factory radio. The lights in your new radio will come on when the radio is turned on. So yes you need to cap that wire too.

Thanks "I am an idiot" (he he). I've passed your info onto my husband. He's the one that will be cutting and splicing. I will get to stand around with tools and so he'll have someone to argue with. ;)

Well, we got power, speakers and CD/DVD etc, system turns off and on with ignition, but the aerial isn't going up and down. So it looks like I will need to know which wire I should use. Below are the colours of the wires that I have left that aren't listed on any of the wiring diagrams for the stereo.

Small orange / light blue line
Red / black line
grey / black line.

Can anyone tell me what these wires are? They are the only ones still attached to the old radio/stereo connector, coming from the wiring loom. :) I do like to listen to the radio occasionally, but with no aerial, it's a bit hard. LOL

I also have another question, but I don't know if this is the place to ask - it's about the connection of the LCD screen and the radio...
