I installed a BOSS DVD player in place of the factory video tape recorder in my 2001 Olds Silhouette.  Picture is only black & white.  Also added a BOSS video amplifier to increase the signal level, still only black & white.  I have temporarily hooked the Boss DVD player to a TV monitor and the color picture is great.  I have temporarily hooked up a 110 volt DVD player to the Olds  video system, and it too is a good color picture.  All combinations  work except the Boss DVD player into the Olds video system.  Any ideas???

I would suspect that your video amp is no good. Anytime I have replaced the VHS unit with a DVD I have had to add a video amp too. I use the Audiovox (VA 100) unit and it works well and is inexpensive. You could also have a problem with the video connections. Try using the RCA inputs on the overhead and see if you have the same problem.
