I have this Infinity QX56 2004 the dvd player is not working ( located under the center armrest) so the question is can I install an aftermarket dvd player? if so what else do i need to buy to hook it up in to the car factory wire harness?.

It is possible to replace with aftermarket but there isn't a magic connector to make it work. You will have to determine AV signals on the factory plug....

Yes I have done them before. Go here to get the service manual https://www.phatg20.net/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=2&func=select&id=15 and in it you will find the pinouts and colors.
