I have an AVIC-D1 in an '06 IH 4400 (big truck). The vehicle does not communicate with the GPS so a remote sensor was installed (professionally) in the left rear wheel well. The wheel was magnetized to trigger the sensor and give speed information. At installation I was given a "green stick" with a magnet on the end. I was told this was to re-magnify the wheel as needed. After 2 years apparently the wheel needs re-magnetizing which brings me to the point. How do I re-magnetize the wheel? There is nothing in the AVIC-D1 manual about it. The installing dealer is 200 miles away and the personnel there were unable/unwilling to tell me how to do it on the phone. Can you get to the remote sensor? There is obviously something mounted to the back of the wheel that passes across the sensor. Whatever is on the wheel that passes over the sensor is what needs to be re-magnetized.

Yes, the sensor is easy to get to. It is mounted on the inside of the fender and has two wires that go to the unit. The selling dealer told me on the phone that the entire wheel was magnetized on one side and it has lost it's magnetism. ------------- If you can read this thank a teacher, if you are reading it in English thank a soldier. It is going to be real hard to re-magnetize an entire wheel with a green stick. Have you thought about placing the magnet of a speaker on the wheel overnight?

I even thought about gluing a magnet to the wheel. The folks at the place I bought the unit say it is easy to magnetize the wheel. They said to rub the stick over the tread of the tire as if painting with a brush for 3/4 of the diameter of the wheel. Maybe it is the steel belts in the tire that are magnetized. I have tried several times with no luck. I was hoping someone on the forum had experience with installing these units in big trucks or other vehicles with incompatible electronic speed input. Apparently it is common to magnetize the wheels. The "stick" is from Pioneer and came with the sensor. Naturally I threw the box the sensor came in away so I don't know the model of it. ------------- If you can read this thank a teacher, if you are reading it in English thank a soldier. I don't see any way the sensor will work if the entire wheel is magnetized. These sensors count pulses, when the magnet passes by the sensor it sees a pulse. If the entire wheel is magnetized, I see no way for it to generat a pulse.

I am wondering if the green stick is to be stuck to the inside of the wheel. Hopefully you can find a manual for it on the above page. Obviously you are no idiot. How could you be, a fellow Louisianan and all? Thanks so much for the link. The Pioneer customer service folks said they can tell me how to do it if I had a model number of the devise. The guy said the wheel is to be magnetized on one side only.

Let me know how they tell you to magnetize just part of the wheel.
