So I'm looking for the correct wire for the VSS and also the rear brake light (I think reverse light?) lead for my car.
I tapped a r/w wire behind the cluster on the speedometer side but it doesn't seem that it was the correct one because the output on my h/u was nothing.
The head unit is a JVC KD-NX5000 and works great but I'm unable to use the navigation until I find the VSS and also the rear brake light lead.
Help!

So there is no wire in the harness for the reverse light lead? Is it even necessary for this unit to make the navigation work?

There is a wire in the harness. If you had run the wire to the reverse light bulb you would be finished by now. I was just saying that if you can not find info on the color and location of the wire, it is at the bulb in the rear of the car. The only problem you will have if you do not connect this wire is, when you are backing up the nav unit will think you are driving forward in the direction you are backing up. The screen will flip upside down.

reverse is GREEN / WHITE in drivers kick, harness to rear of vehicle
vss is PURPLE / red at instrument cluster

The bolded part I'm not sure about, does this mean I'll find the wire in the rear door kick panel or the driver's door kick panel?

There are probably several bundles of wires in the drivers side kick panel. But one of those bundles goes down and toward the back of the vehicle. That is the one that you will find that wire in. Or of course you could always run the wire to the back of the vehicle and tag the wire at the reverse light bulb and you would be finished by now.

The drivers kick panel is the panel that the driver "kicks with his left foot. As far as finding the wire all you need is a computer safe test light to find the reverse wire, as for the vss wire you'd need to meter it. Both of these sound like there beyond your experince level so you might want to find someone that knows what their doing.

I know what the kick panels are, I've been working on cars for years. The post that was above was just a little misleading because it said to the rear of the vehicle and when thinking about it, the same wires in the driver's kick should be the same as the ones in the driver's rear kick.

really? drivers kick panel in the harness that goes from the underdash location and heads in the general direction of the rear of the vehicle.
how is what I wrote the first time and then now confusing?
anyone that works on cars would know EXACTLY what I said the first time.
Don't get all huffy because you can't comprehend basic installer language.

I too have a 03 sentra spec V. I was able to find the reverse light wire, but i'm having trouble tapping to the vss wire. I found the PURPLE / red wire and I tapped into it but it doesn't seem to work. hotquacamole, were you successful in finding the wire and getting your nav to work? I also bought the same JVC unit, but i'm not having any success with the vss wire. Can someone help me?
