Looking to install a overhead dvd combo in my ford f250 crewcab. Bought a standard one but noticed the molding contors of the headliner do not allow for a clean install. Found a custom plastic console for it but at $500... At the risk of sounding cheap, does anyone know where to find one cheaper or know any tricks for a cleaner install?

What overhead screen do you have ? Most come with a flexible shroud that you can cut to shape.

The key to it is to get a smooth surface on the top of the headliner so that when you screw the DVD up it smooths the headliner out. We use a metal plate but a chunk of plywood should do the trick. Screw the plywood to the crossbeam with the headliner below it so that when the DVD goes up it has no choice but to flaten the headliner out. You will still have issues at the ridges but being carefull you can get it acceptable. Perfection is almost impossible due to the shape but you can get close. If it's your own truck you could try making a shroud out of particle board and cut the ridges in that for a perfect fit, but this will be time consuming and may take a few tries.

Thanks for the advice. Something else ive questioned is that, Is there any other way to hang it without drilling holes in the head liner by chance? I know it'd be hard to avoid but i thought id ask....
I did this exact install a few months back.
I cut the shroud to match the contor. I used a little tool i got from Home Depot called a Contour Duplication Gauge to get the contour lines.
You will have to screw through the headliner to get a good mount but they will be small holes.
