I have a 2006 lincoln navigator with a rear dvd and I am trying to locate the video out wire or find out if it is rgb.  there is no shielded wires inside the unit.  It is the style with the flip down screen directly beneath the dvd player.  It is delco delphi it has two different part numbers 28028242 and 28015196. There is a 22 pin connector that goes from the unit to the screen.

If I need to do some testing to find the wire, i can do that also with a little instruction, one guy told me to use a capacitor, but I don't know what to do with it.  Also if it is rgb then I would like to know if there is any way to convert that to a one wire system or "composite".

I have been searching the internet for quite a while and found lots if info and it seems like this subject has been brought up alot, however never the right unit or the right vehicle.    Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance,

Jim

hi.

i don't believe it RGB.  the 22 pin connector is on the right edge of the dvd?  if you have access to a small monitor, power it up (like through a power socket or cig lighter outlet).  then make a test probe out of an RCA end...strip off a length (1 " )of the outer insulation and the shield leaving the center conductor.  strip a short length (1/4") of the insulation off the center conductor and tin the tip.  connect this to the video in of your test monitor.  carefully remove the cover from the DVD player, you may have to remove it from the overhead housing.  power up the video system and with a dvd playing in the player carefully probe each of the 22 pins on the connector. look for a video signal while you do this.  i believe the signal is closer to the dvd slot end of the connector.  when you have your picture, that is the connection point for your video out.  use the case of the player for the video gnd/shield.  you may need a video amplifier depending upon the monitor(s) you connect at this point.  the factory screen may dim slightly when you connect an additional monitor to it.

thanks for the info.

Do you think any of those wires can fry anything in the test monitor or the dvd player when connected to the monitor?

never had an issue on times i tried it.  but use the info at your own risk of course.  a steady hand doesn't hurt either.

I used the capacitor, all I did was ground the negative side and then touch the pos. side off to the different terminals, much like you said to do with the rca cable.  However I believe this is safer, when I got to the video lead the capacitor stole power from the video signal making a change in the video- the picture went to crap.  It worked really well for future reference.
