Just purchased a Pioneer AVIC-X910BT DVD/Nav/Stereo for my 05 Dodge Ram and I'm in the planning/install stage I would like to know if anyone has used a factory exterior GPS antenna with this system? (I would like a cleaner antenna, rather than a magnet and a stick-on metal plate) if anyone else has solved this issue, or it is impossible I would like to hear from you.

Most GPS antennas can pass through plastic and fiberglass without signal degradation. I install all my GPS antennas under the dash with a clear line through plastic and no metal. If you attach it to metal, this increases the GPS effectiveness to receive a GPS signal as well.

I will give it a shot, I would rather have the antenna out of sight. Pioneers install manual does not give clear install instructions (must have uninstructed view of sky) for the antenna, and most people probably attach the antenna on the dash. I am hoping it will install in a unused speaker mount in the top of the dash, any other words of wisdom?

I usually go to the speaker location that you mentioned if there's no speaker there. Great spot and works for most of the GPS systems that I install.

I do a lot of Pioneer navs and always install the antenna hidden in the dash, usually taped to the top a of an air duct so that it has only the plastic dash to go thru. Never an issue....

Thanks for the feedback Mike, I'm sure my antenna will end up under the dash when I get the dash cut up and glassed, when I can find the time. I was hoping to go with something different like GM's OnStar sharkfin antenna ( I can't do easy, when I can be different ) but with Mother's day comming up this weekend it'll have to wait.
