I am adding a backup camera on a 2001 Ram what is the color of the wire for the reverse light?

Gain access to the plug feeding either rear lamp, turn on ignition, NOT engine run, place vehicle in reverse and test.
You should then be able to trace that lead to a front kick panel, probably driver's side.

Can anyone suggest a good place to mount a Kenwood CMOS-300 rear view camera on a 2001 Ram??

Here is what Audiovox shows for the reverse wire:

Reverse Lights VIOLET/BLACK (+) 16 PIN GRY CONN DRIVERS DASH

As for mounting the camera....you'll just have to get creative.
