Hi, I am looking for help regarding reconnecting/rewiring a flip down monitor in a 2003 Chevy Suburban. The monitor currently does not work and the person I bought the vehicle from does not have any info about it.
The monitor is a after market monitor that is part of a roof council that includes two dome lights with a switch and rear heat/AC controls. The monitor does not turn on, the lights do not turn on, but the rear air controls are fully functional. The monitor is a Farenheit brand name and is 10" size. There are no other model #'s or other identification on the council.
There is a switch below the dash and to the left of the steering wheel that I believe is related. It has 3 red wires coming from it. One wire goes back behind a trim pieces near the front drivers side door. My guess is that this is the power wire for the monitor and probably runs back behind trim/capreting to the pillar behind the drivers door and up to the council. I checked this wire with a electrical meter and there is no power in this wire. The 2nd wire appears to be ground and is attached to metal behind the dash. The 3rd wire was connected to a ad hoc 30 Amp blade style fuse and the wire coming from the fuse has been cut.
There is a connector/adapter mounted on the passanger side door pillar near the floor. It has a number of audio/video input/output jacks on it. There is currently two wires connected to it. The first is 12V DC. The 2nd is labled "To Monitor". My electrical tester leads are too large to fit into the connector on the wire going to the 12V DC connector, so I'm not sure if this wire has power currently or not. Both of these wires go into a hole cut into the trim on the door pillar.
The pocket on the back side of the front passanger seat is stretched out in the shape of what was probably the DVD/game council/etc.
There is also a red wire that is sticking out from the front lower center council (near the gas pedal). This wire had been cut also but did have a wire cap on it (the other cut wire did not). I tested (both with key off and on) this wire and it does not have power either. Note this wire is not long enough to reach the other cut wire.
I inspected around under the dash as best I could, and there is a ground wire that is attached to metal but cut. There is also a purple wire that comes off what I think is the diagnostic sensor connector that has another wire that is spliced into it. That wire runs up behind the dash.
So that is a description of what I do have. It appers that something related to the system was cut out and removed, but not sure what that would have been? Also not sure where power was tapped off from for the system?
I want to try connecting power up to the switch to see if that powers up the monitor and/or lights but not sure where to best tap off of?
One other item that may be relevant that I forgot to add in my original post. There is also an after market remote starter on the vehicle.
