All: I have a 2008 F-150 that I would like to add an aftermarket back-up camera to. Rather than replacing the head unit, I would like to add a motorized monitor that will flip out of the space where the ashtray is now, or simply rise vertically from the dash. My major questions are, how can I wire the motor/actuator(s) so that they raise the monitor to the proper place when they see 12+, and lower it completely when they don't?

Thanks

Actuators are designed in a way that if power is applied they extend and stop automatically, same with down. Ignition power to trip a relay to run it and that's pretty much it for up. down may be tricky as you need a trigger, maybe use arm or lock...

Just a thought... They make motorized license plates(for the front bumper). It extends out then flips up. The whole assembly is pretty large but could possibly Mod it. Just a thought as everything is already made/built.

Thanks for the suggestions gentlemen. I just gave up. I can drive the truck well enough to survive without the camera, just thought I could rig something cool and functional. My new idea is to use a tft monitor small enough that I don't need it to move. I have to figure out how to adapt a cheap tft like this: https://www./itm/New-3-2-inch-320x240-TFT-LCD-Screen-Module-Touch-Panel-LCD-Controller-SSD1289-/170884982883?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27c989e863 to work.
