Hi everyone, new guy here. I've researched and have not seen anything else posted about this but apologize if I have overlooked anything.
I am wanting to have my backup camera power on when I engage my turn signals in addition to when the car is put into reverse . This would be helpful when changing lanes. I really enjoy our car, a 2009 Lincoln MKS, but it has some undesirable blind spots I would like to eliminate. The camera seems to have a very wide view that should accomplish this. I haven't seen any wiring diagrams for my car but I don't think it would be too difficult to figure out the wiring. My idea is to adapt a design from this site using a relay switch(https://www.the12volt.com/relays/relaydiagram22.html) Maybe something like this
Does anyone see any issues wiring it up this way? Maybe you know of a completely different way to do this. You thoughts are greatly appreciated. Great site, btw! Thanks!
Not too many responses on my 1st post

but that's ok as I've been busy reading lots of other's posts.
But I did think of another question in regards to this project and I'm sure many will know the answer to this one.
What is the backup camera's video priority over any other video being displayed...say the navigation screen, or radio screen, etc.???
My guess is that navigation system will always give the backup camera priority. I read on 1 site that said that the 'backup camera will always be given priority when the car is in reverse'. But what if I'm not in reverse, just driving down the road & flip on a turn signal (after mod is made)?? Thoughts??
Thanks!
This seems to be a bit too specialized of a project for the masses to reply to here. In theory your diagram will work, IF the stock radio has a reverse input lead. Im not going to get much further into it than that because providing a signal on that reverse lead while in motion could have serious un-intended consequences. Worst case the ABS system freaks out and you go into limp home mode unexpectedly.
I don't think we can offer much more assistance other than in theory it sounds like it will work, but do a lot of testing before heading out on the highway if you attempt this.
