I was wondering if i could hook up the remote wire from my head unit to my dvd?

SO, you want the DVD player to have power when you turn the radio on? Sure, hook the remote wire to a RELAY, that will control the device you use to power the DVD player. If it's a 12V DVD player, then you can hook the remote wire to it, as long as it consumes less power than the remote wire is rated at. Your safest way is to use a RELAY in any case.
