I got a factory original VCR/monitor center console from a friend who upgraded to a DVD unit in his NISSAN QUest. I want to use it from time to time in my 1989 Camry without hardwiring it. The power comes to the unit from three wires that terminate in a small white custom male plug that must have matched a female plug in the Quest.
First, will it work if just I snip off the male plug and splice these wires to a lighter socket power adapter (rated 10 amps)?
Second, any clue which wires go to + or - or ground? There's a white one, a red one, and a thicker black one.
Thanks!

One will be power, the other will be ground, and the other is a SENSE wire for the parking brake. REd should be power, black is ground, the white should be a sense wire to a switched ground (which is applied with the parking brake). Federal laws say you can't have the units runing while in motion, unless they are BEHIND the driver seats. This is why they use the SENSE wire, so it only works when the parking brake is applied.
You can wire it to the lighter socket. If that white is a GROUND sense wire, then you just put the white and black to the same ground. IF the white a a Positive sense wire, you can hook it with the red. . . You may be able to search the net for their orientation.

Thanks for the advice. I wired it up red to positive, black to negative, and just capped off the white. It powers up just fine!
