I have the new Lexus RX 330 with the Nav and the DVD rear entertainment. The Dvd goes to the nav when the park break is on and you are not moving. I would like to be able to have the video while moving etc. I know that in some states this is unlawful. Please let me know any ideas or fixes.

The DVD is in the rear and the nav is up front. When you have the car stopped and the parking brake up is down - you can hit in put on the radio and get the dvd audio to go through the system and the dvd video comes up on the nav screen. When you disenage the parking brake or start to move the Video goes OUT on the nav. There has got to be a way around this or some device out there - to let me watch it while moving.

thanks

Mark

you will have to use a relay to bypass the parking brake, to fool the system into thinking you have the parking brake engaged

I will have to wait until Monday when I get back to work to find out, in the meantime you could ask someone in the cruise control forum about the vss wire.

One of the guys tried this on a Lexus LX470 and had trouble getting it to work.

He was able to replicate the parking brake being on pretty easily, and the DVD would work....until the car started moving, as you mention about yours. He was hesitant to cut the speed-sense (VSS) wire going to the radio, because then the navigation wouldn't work.

You could first try engaging your parking brake just one click (so the brake light on the dash comes on), and then drive around and see whether or not the picture cuts out when you're in motion.

If the picture works like that, all you need to do is trick the unit into thinking the parking brake's on; that should be easy.

But if it still goes out when you move, you will probably have to interrupt the VSS wire. That's easy to do with a simple switch, but you won't be able to use the nav while the switch is on, and the nav might get a little confused when you turn it on and off...you'll have to try and find out about that.

thanks for that response - the dvd does cut off while in motion. Do you happen to know what color is vss wire for the rx 330

thanks

I don't have any information on the RX330, but the typicaly Toyota VSS wire color is PURPLE / white.

Maybe you can look for a purple white up at the radio, cut it in half, and wire in a temporary toggle switch. See if the thing acts crazy with the switch in the off position.

Just to throw my 2 cents in. If you cut the vss wire then the nav will not work, at least not correctly. It will no longer tell you where you are correctly.

If all you want to do is bypass the parking brake without the light then you will need to find out which wire is the parking brake input at the nav/dvd unit, then cut it. Take the unit's wire and connect it to thirty, the car's wire to 87. Take a ground to 87a. Then take a toggle switch and wire one end to ground and the other end to 85 of the relay. Then wire 12V to 86. Again I don't recommend doing this if you have to interrupt the vss for the nav. It will be useless and you will have to probably unplug it to acquire its location again.
