the dvd player i want to use in the car is a Koss

the one that i tested and works in color is a APEX or apexi

the koss send a positive sync signal and the apex sends a negative signal

what do you mean about "works in color"?  i think mine is doing the same thing.  does the color shift in and out on it?

did you check the vehicle monitor for the PAL/NTSC selection.  If you have a dual mode DVD and a Dual mode screen that can cause problems.  I have not experienced it personally but I have read about it.  The PAL settings on either will send a black-n-white pic. The modes should be set on NTSC.
