will and headunit with a motorized lcd work in the factory slot...or will the screen hit the air/heat vents? If so, has anyone solved this problem or found another place to put a motorized lcd in the dash?

The Grand Prix's have a plastic bracket in the rear of the deck opening that limits the aftermarket decks from sliding back all the way. There are kits out that extend the aftermarket decks about 1 " and if you use these kits, you will not hit the vents. If you decide to flush mount the deck by cutting the plastic bracket , the monitor will hit the vents.

Oh yah. Not much of a problem. I have a Pioneer AVH-P6500DVD (and Avic-80 Navi) in my '97 GTP and love it. I bought a nice install kit from sounddomain.com and it makes it sort of stick out a bit, but ends up working good to miss the vents. I just close 2 of the A/C vents that the screen blocks.

I have thought about doing a little work and switching it so that the screen is in the A/C heater controls slot, but then it would hit the shifter when it opens.

Anway, I have a couple pics on my site if you want to check it out:
