hello
im putting a dvd system in a suburban and i was wondering what i need to get to produce sound into the speakers of the car off the dvd player. do i need a fm modulator and if so how do i hook it up to the stock HU??

any help would be great thanks.

Yes, you need an fm modulator and you will also need the antenna adaptors.  the metra part numbers are 40GM10 and 40GM20, most stereo shops will have these.

You may also want to explore the option of a wireless FM modulator.  This way you won't have to worry about wires to the head unit.  I use one of these in my Expedition, and it works great.

If your head unit has an AUX  button in it or a CD changer controller capability, I would look into getting the adaptor that allows RCA inputs for the factory H/U.  This will give you a cleaner and clearer sound versus an FM modulator. 

FM modulators are always the last resort for me.  Location, elevation, etc. tends to interfere with the quality of the sound on FM modulators.  Also, they do not come in as loud and clear if you were to go direct RCA if your Head Unit has this capability.
