was trying to get some info on what is the best way to mount a flip down in a car with no brace going across like in a cadillac and what kind of wood or metal to use ?

Use either wood or metal sheet as a mounting base. Depending on the weight and the size of the flip down, this would be the determining factor for me as far as material goes for the mounting plate. If it's heavy, then use metal as you do not want the flip down to come loose when the screen is being pulled down.

it will be like a 10 inch flip down so do i like sandwich the head liner between the metal and flipdown of what ?....making the metal bigger than the flip down base?........

Yes, you have to place the metal inbetween the headliner and the roof of the vehicle. The tricky part is positioning the plate in the proper position, but it's not vital that it is squared off because you will not see it anyway, just make sure that you have enough of  the plate that the screws can bite into.

so the head liner will hold it or do i need to do some trick to get it to stay up with out the head liner comming down with just the sandwich method holding it ?

The headliner will hold the weight of the flip down unit no problem. The trick now is to get betweent he head liner and the roof so you can position the mounting plate.
