I'm after some help please. I have a Pioneer sat nav system that has an AV input into which i'm trying to feed the output from my PS2.

It works fine when the ps2 is plugged into the mains power, but i've tried a couple of power inverters and which each i get horizontal interferance lines across the screen. posted_image

I don't think it's alternator noise, the lines are there whether the engine is running or not and don't relate to engine speed. There is similar buzzing noise on the audio though. posted_image

Can anyone help me? posted_image

Any post I've read or problem I've dealt with similar to that, is usually a power problem.  how many watts is your power inverter?  Double check the power wire and ground wire for good clean connections (with large enough cable). Since it works fine connected directly, its most likely the way the power inverter is wired.

Thanks Jay,

It's rated at 100w and is a retail product specifically sold for powering a ps2.  It does just plug into the cigarette lighter though, i'll try a direct feed from the battery and direct earth tomorrow and hope that helps.  I'll let you know how it goes.

Might want to try a higher rated inverter as well. I believe if its rated at 100w that would be maximum constant power at full usage.  Might not be very efficient especially if its a lower quality inverter.  Consider a 200w or similar one.  I Think the PS2 draws approx 80 watts.

Had another look this evening, a direct connection to battery didn't help, but on checking the AV cable connection to the hide away box the noise went.  A little more poking and earthing the box to the body seems to cure it.

I've stuck some foil in for now (pretty shoddy i know) and i'll improve the earth at the weekend.  I'm pretty sure i've only used the antenna to earth the head unit (as my evo has no earth connection on the iso block) so i'll put a dedicated earth in.

Thanks again for your time Jay.
