hi i'm about to buy this unit from a friend and i don't know if it work or not. my question is can i power this up by hooking it up to a battery or i need to hook this up with a head unit like the avm8000??? if i have to do that doesn't anyone know how to or have a source to hook it up???

Take the RED & YELLOW wire of the main harness and attach it to (+) of the battery. Take the BLACK wire and attach it to the ground of the battery. To test the video, there should be a GREEN wire ( look at wiring diagram to verify this wire ) and this needs to see ground for the video system to work.

if i have already did that and the picture or the dvd didn't even come on what could be wrong??? please help thanks.

I believe you need the AVM-P8000R to view video on this model Pioneer DVD Player. I may be wrong, but that's what I gathered from the information that I got.
